GERDAU JACKSON, TN ORDERS TAYLOR MADE LADLE CARBON INJECTION SYSTEM & CHROME FEEDING HOPPER

Gerdau Jackson, TN has purchased a material injection system from INTECO PTI to add carbon to the ladle after tap.  The system stores carbon in an 870 cuft hopper, which is filled by super sack. The hopper can send carbon to the existing alloy belt to be delivered at EAF tap into the ladle, or into a 100 cuft vessel that holds 4000 lbs of carbon sitting below the hopper.  The material then can be delivered via transport piping from the vessel to the ladle stirring area.  A touch screen HMI positions a manipulator arm and selects the amount of material injected into the ladle, where the maximum amount of carbon that can be delivered is 200-300 lb./min.  The manipulator arm then positions the transport pipe over the ladle stirring eye. The material injection system has many benefits, including the protection of operators by eliminating the handling of 50 lb bags.  The new system will also increase the accuracy of the material added to the ladle, which will result in final carbon levels in the steel that are closer to the target specification.

Also included in this package is a separate Chrome Feeding Hopper that will deliver material onto the Existing EAF Alloy belt to be added during tapping of the furnace.
